John Mancini.- His foremost influences were the Renaissance painter Masaccio and De Chirico, a surrealist who also inspired Salvador Dali.
Though Mancini has lived in the United States since 1951, he grew up in Comiso, Italy, southeast of Sicily
Mancini became an art director and painted on the side for 40 years. He moved to the West Coast in 1958. He has worked for NASA on the Apollo project rendering drawings for the mission to the moon, among other technical art jobs.
He approached his subject with mathematical precision, working with the geometry of the landscape, guiding the painting into the realm of surrealism.
